Hello friends and happy Thursday! I’m here today with another day in the life type post. Speaking of day in the life posts, the other day, I took a little break from studying to “check on the blog” and found myself going through old posts. (Old being summer. I know, I know, such a long time ago. But I’ve been blogging less than a year, so…) I’ve heard/read people who blog say they started their blog as a way to document their lives, like a journal, even the blog itself wasn’t strictly a journal-type blog. Since I journal regularly, I didn’t think I would look through previous blog posts whilst feeling nostalgic, but apparently I was wrong. So if you’re thinking about starting a blog, there’s another reason to do it.
Anyways, here’s my day in words and pictures:
Alarm goes off at 6:00 as usual. I go through cycles of wanting to spring out of bed right away and wanting to lay in bed after my alarm goes off. After several days of being up and ready to go, I guess we’re now on the “let’s just stay here for a few more minutes” period. In theory, I prefer to get up right away. Mostly because if I lay in bed it doesn’t actually feel restful. And also because slow mornings are my jam. So if I went to bed at a decent time the night before, I try to get up right away so I can take more time to read/make coffee, etc.
This is my current phone lock screen, by the way.
After getting up and downing all the water (I always wake up thirsty), I feel like getting outside and moving. Since daylight savings time ended, it’s actually not totally dark, so I head outside.
It’s cold here–30 this morning–so I try to dress appropriately for the weather. It’s always a struggle, though. Obviously I’ll warm up as I move, so I don’t want to dress too warmly, but on the other hand, feeling like I’m freezing isn’t pleasant either. Thankfully, I nail it this morning!
And the sun is just starting to rise as I finish up and walk back to my room.
Once there, I change and root around for something to eat to hold me over until breakfast. One of my roommates went home over the weekend and she brought back her family’s bread machine (joy upon joy). Last night, my other roomie and I made our first loaf of bread machine bread. I’d never used one before, so it was a completely new experience. We didn’t have yeast, so we used baking powder. It had a different texture, but tasted delicious, probably because we used melted butter and whole milk. Always good things.
This was a super low quality pic to begin with, but then there’s my finger in front of the camera because hi, I’m Naomi and it’s 2017 and I don’t know how to use my iPhone.
Anyways, I eat a little bread and some homemade applesauce (which my mom sent me <3) so I don’t get hangry before I get down to breakfast.
Around 7:30, I make my bed (which I always, always do. It’s in my nature or something.) and read for a few minutes.
I also look over my schedule for the day. Over the weekend, I saw a snippet of a random video on bullet journaling and it inspired me to put in 30 extra seconds to make my weekly spread just a little prettier. My rule with my bullet journal is that it absolutely cannot add more stress to my life. It’s supposed to simplify my life. But I have lots of pretty tape I got for Christmas last year and it’s amazing what a little washi tape will do for a spread.
I don’t usually write down classes on my weekly spread; I have a separate page with my class schedule and my day in time blocks. During my studying time blocks, I pick a task and work on it. It lets me be a little more flexible with when I accomplish each task, which is nice.
I go over some notes and read a short article for a class, then head down to breakfast at 8:00. Oatmeal with strawberries and cottage cheese. Totally meant to snap a picture, totally forgot.
Then it’s off to classes: French and chemistry and social problems, with a little break between to work on some chem homework and devour a couple hardboiled eggs and a banana.
A little after 1:00 and it’s time for lunch. This I did remember to snap a picture of, but only after I’d already started eating. Hence why it looks so messy. Real life.
Followed by celery and carrots and peanut butter. Another day, another opportunity to eat peanut butter.
After lunch, I work on some homework until around 2:45 when I decide I will be more productive if I take a power nap. For some reason, I’ve had a headache the last couple of days. I rarely nap during the day, but thanks to a reminder from the lovely Alyssa, I go for it. Thirty glorious minutes of sleep later and I feel refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of my work.
We rearranged our dorm room a few weeks ago and now my bed is up against the window, level with the windowsill, which I love. I can keep books and my water bottle and my succulents on the windowsill. Today, the weather was beautiful, but it’s also nice to snuggle up and listen to the rain on the glass while reading.
I spend the next hour and a half or so studying with the La La Land soundtrack on in the background. Pretty positive I have it memorized.
At 5:00, I have dinner with a leadership group I’m part of. We discuss the common good and what it means. No picture, but I have roasted tomatoes, chicken, sweet potatoes, and a salad with feta cheese and lots of red wine vinegar and olive oil. Also more celery and peanut butter because apparently I’m obsessed. Another meal, another opportunity to eat peanut butter.
After dinner, I start listening to a podcast while I get a begin working on this post. I can listen to podcasts while I edit/upload photos and that sort of thing, but when I actually write, I have to switch to music because otherwise, half an hour will go by and I won’t remember anything on the podcast.
Like I said, I’ve had a headache the past few days, so I think I’ll take it easy tonight and maybe work on a few things that require minimal brain-power before I call it a night. If I’m up to it, I might journal some too. Though what I really want to do is take a long shower with the sole purpose of singing. Listening to the La La Land soundtrack will do that to you. Or rather, that’s what it does to me pretty much every time. Just another day in the life.
What are you up to today? Are you a have-to-make-my-bed person? Ever used a bread machine?
