This weekend ended up being the perfect balance of work, play, and rest. Didn’t plan it that way, it just happened. Which is always pretty great. I know Friday isn’t technically the weekend, buuuuuuut sometimes it feels like it. That was my Friday this week, and the work factor in my work/play/rest equation.
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this here before, but I’m heading off to PA for school in a few weeks. And that means I’ve been going through my room. And getting rid of tons of stuff. Mostly old school papers that I can’t believe I’ve saved for so long. With the help of my patient mother, I did a last go-through of everything, including my dresser/closet.
One humungaloid pink suitcase test-run packed with all the important stuff like scarves that don’t keep you warm and fuzzy slippers? Check. (Feel free to roll your eyes. I would.)
Saturday = Portland trip with two of my best(est) friends, Lydia and Olivia (hi!). First stop was a picnic lunch at Peninsula Park. (If you’re in Portland, OR, goooooo. There’s a beautiful gazebo, brickwork, a fountain, and a rose garden.)
Side story: I have this ring with a crescent moon on it that I always lose, and I joke that it always comes back to me. I’ve lost it at least four or five times now, in random, not-at-home places. Every time I think, ‘This’ll be the time I actually will have lost it for good’, and then I find it. So, sure enough, after eating lunch, I realized it was gone. I wasn’t even going to bother really looking for it, but then Lydia stepped on something and there it was.
After we found the infamous ring and enjoyed walking around the rose garden (and almost crashing a wedding photo shoot), we high-tailed it over to Salt & Straw, aka the best ice cream place this side of the Rockies (and maybe anywhere). Super long line wrapping around the building, but well worth the wait.
A split scoop of chocolate zucchini bread and carrot cake with hazelnut praline for me, please. I ADORE zucchini bread and you already know how I feel about chocolate (all the love), but surprisingly, the carrot cake was my favorite. I mean, it had a cream cheese swirl in it. Still dreaming about it. Cinnamony-carrotty-nutty deliciousness. I also sampled their olive oil ice cream, which I actually really liked too.
Before leaving Portland, we had to find a plant covered wall to use as a backdrop for some snaps with my new polaroid camera (this one!). I’m obsessed with that thing.
Then it was back home for a taco salad bar + movie night with more friends.
Sunday is my rest day (always). It used to be a huge struggle, but now I’m all about resting hard on Sundays. I wasn’t feeling super great–tired and just kind of blah. Church, journaling, reading, and a therapeutic cry all helped a lot. And now typing up this blog post with a before-bed snack (again, always) is a good way to end the night.
Hope you had a lovely weekend. If you have a blog and a weekend/week recap, please feel free to link to it in the comments! Happy Monday, lovelies!
